GENERAL INFORMATION

Online learning offers many advantages for all types of learners. High School students can complete coursework for regular classes, Advanced Placement classes, elective classes or make up credits for graduation. Online learning offers the flexibility so you can:
  1. Learn anywhere, anytime
  2. Access courses not otherwise offered
  3. Resolve scheduling conflicts
  4. Gain one-to-one teacher support and feedback
  5. Prepare for AP exams
How to Take Online Courses
Entirely independent
Complete all coursework and communicate with our instructor online via the Internet.

With help from your home school
The online course will be proctored by either our instructor from the Online Program or an instructor from your own high school.

As a supplement to your curriculum
Access online course material to expand or enrich topics already being taught.

Registration
Students
If you are interested in taking an online course, visit your home school guidance counselor for registration information. The guidance counselor will assess your needs and abilities to determine if an online course is an appropriate choice.

Technical Requirements

Computer Skills
Students should have a basic understanding of computers, including email and browser experience.

System Requirements
Students must have the following minimum computer configuration:
  • Modern computer with a reliable internet connection
  • Windows or Macintosh Operating System
  • Color Monitor (16 bit, 800x600 resolution)
  • Microphone for language-based courses
  • Sound card and speakers
Minimum Recommended Browser Versions
  • Chrome: 63+
  • Edge: 42+
  • Firefox: 57+
  • Safari: 12+ (Mac OS only)
IPads and Phones are NOT recommended for accessing online classes.

Thank you for visiting Onlinehs.org. This site is owned and operated by Western Suffolk BOCES which is committed to honoring the privacy of our students and visitors.

What information does Western Suffolk BOCES receive and how do we use it?
When you register for a course at Western Suffolk BOCES through Wilson Technological Center or Careerlearn, we ask you for your name, contact information, preferences, and certain demographic information. This information lets us provide personalized services and communicate individually with you.

Like most websites, we use small bits of data called cookies stored on users' computers to simulate a continuous connection. Cookies let us "remember" information about your preferences and passwords and allow you to move within our web sites without reintroducing yourself. Recent versions of browsers let you easily see and control cookies.

May I choose what information I disclose?
No. We need certain information to register you as a unique user and let you access personalized services, such as the Careerlearn on-line program or to register for a course. The majority of our web pages do not request any information from you.

May I choose what communications I receive?
We send a monthly email newsletter to those who have registered for any of our courses. This newsletter highlights other learning opportunities through Western Suffolk BOCES partners. You can elect not to receive communications from us by requesting not to be put on the mailing list when you register, by noting “REMOVE” in the subject line in response to communications from us or by going to www.careerlearn.org and clicking the unsubscribe button. This is strictly an opt-in opt-out service to keep you apprised of new avenues to improve your skills at Western Suffolk BOCES.

What if I need to review or change the personal information I previously disclosed?
We encourage Western Suffolk BOCES students to update and edit their personal information. You can easily do so at any time via our registrar at Registrar@wsboces.org or 1-631-667-6000 extext. 320.

What kind of security is used to protect my information?
We store all user information in secure databases protected via a variety of access controls. This data is accessed only for the purposes specified in this privacy statement.

Who has access to my information?
We do not share personally identifiable data with other companies except as necessary to fulfill a transaction you have requested, or unless you otherwise give us permission to do so. Western Suffolk BOCES may also provide such information in response to a legal process, such as a court order or subpoena.
